Have you ever noticed, or thought about, how easy it is to remember and hold on to negative experiences and that it is even easier to get stuck in a negative spiral? The Five of Pentacles is a lot like that. Scientists theorize that our propensity to have a mental death grip on the negative and no grip on the positive has something to do with our survival instincts passed down from our ancestors. I can’t speak to the truth of that, I can only speak from my own experience. Any one who suffers from even the most mild form of depression will tell you it fells like a constant, negative spiral that only continues to go down. Its easy, its familiar, its comfortable. Clawing your way out of that feels not even impossible, though that is part of it, it feels like a thankless task. A Sisyphean one. There’s probably nothing for you on the other side of this, so why even bother? And if you do try, and there’s nothing as you so correctly predicted, you won’t just be back where you started, you’ll be worse because now you know there is nothing for you. You’ve just confirmed your own fears in one grad, self-fulling prophesy. Because if you do anything that feels like a risk for you and go into it expecting nothing, nothing is exactly what you are going to get. I have a silly story from my youth to go along with my point; my mom told me I couldn’t juice a peach, you what I did? I went and, successfully, juiced a peach. Why? Because she told me I couldn’t and I aimed to prove her wrong. I’ve found that, on average, most people are like this. When someone tells us we can’t do something, it becomes our mission in life to prove them wrong. When we tell ourselves we can’t do something, it is the easiest thing in the world to believe.
The reverse of the Five of Pentacles means you’ve hit the point where you can break past your self-imposed hindrances and blocks. That doesn’t mean everything about the way you think and who you are does a 180, i used clawing your way out for a reason. Changing the way you think about yourself takes work and some days will be easier than others. But, in the long run its worth it. You deserve good things and happiness, but you won’t have it until you believe that you do.
Anyways, thanks for reading and let me know what you think in the comments. Bye!
