The Four of Pentacles is unusual in the sense that both upright and reversed has a negative quality to it. While this card indicates financial and material gain, this also leads to miserly and protective attitude towards it. You don’t donate it, you don’t inevest it, you just guard it jealously. Reversed takes that behavior to another level and adds greediness on top of it. You want more and you don’t want anyone to even think of taking from you.
Have you ever seen Meteor Garden? When Daoming Si tries to have a relationship with Shancai on the terms he understands - money - she gets insulted (to put it mildly) and leaves. I mentioned this because it was the first and, seemingly, most relevant example that popped into my head. This is his character in the manga and every version of the show: for having so much in a material sense, he has very little. There are parts of life that cannot be bought and trying to buy them will ruin them. Being fixated on wealth and possessions takes away from the priceless parts of life. The parts you can never buy back.
Anyways, thanks for reading and let me know what you think in the comments. Bye!
